Azerbaijan Has Created the Most Complex Concentration Camp in an Area of 3000 Square Kilometers: Arthur Tovmasyan

Armenian National Assembly President Arthur Tovmasyan has addressed the international community and intergovernmental institutions. The full statement is as follows:

“The President of the National Assembly of Artsakh has repeatedly drawn the attention of the international community and intergovernmental institutions to the unprecedented violence against individuals by the leadership of Azerbaijan, highlighting the facts of mass crimes against humanity. By creating the most complex concentration camp in an area of approximately 3000 square kilometers, Azerbaijan has been experimenting with the latest advancements in science on the citizens of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) since December 12, 2022, aimed at dehumanizing an entire population – the Armenian population of Artsakh.

The 120,000+30 (displaced) residents of the freedom-loving country have been subjected to humiliation, starvation, and threats of physical annihilation for eight months, living without electricity, gas, fuel, and medicine. Following World War II, when the international community condemned and established provisions in international law aimed at preventing the recurrence of Nazi Germany’s crimes, it was hard to imagine that in the 21st century, our people would face new methods of extermination through the threat of physical destruction, and that all of this would not even merit intervention from the international community to prevent this great human tragedy.

The President of the National Assembly of Artsakh is sounding the alarm, relying on the conscience of all those who wield influence over the decision to prevent the horrific crimes against humanity committed by the political leadership of Azerbaijan against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Simultaneously, taking into account the provisions of international law regarding the aggression and violence of the aggressor state against self-proclaimed nations, we call on responsible and relevant international intergovernmental institutions to initiate the process of international recognition of Artsakh as the most effective pathway to prevent genocide and the forced displacement of our people from our homeland.

The President of the National Assembly calls for the establishment of a special criminal tribunal against the leadership of Azerbaijan for the crime of creating a modern concentration camp on the territory of Artsakh, which periodically annihilates the indigenous population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The President of the National Assembly is confident that the message from our people's elected Supreme Body will not go unanswered, and that the international community and intergovernmental institutions will not capitulate to aggressors and murderers, but will stand by the people of Artsakh. The head of the Artsakh parliament believes that the only way to avoid the aforementioned dangers is through the recognition of Artsakh's independence based on the principle of ‘recognition for the sake of salvation’,” the statement reads.
