3 Dead, 14 Injured in Major Road Accident; Criminal Proceedings Initiated by Investigative Committee

On July 18, 2023, at approximately 00:30, a major road accident occurred involving five vehicles on the 32nd kilometer of the Yerevan-Yeraskh road. This was reported by Gor Abrahamyan, the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, on his Facebook page.

Specifically, the accident involved a Ford Transit driven by a resident of Aigavan village, a Gazelle driven by a resident of Aralez village, an Infiniti driven by a resident of Pokr Vedi village, a Mercedes driven by a resident of Ararat village, and a BMW driven by another resident of Pokr Vedi village.

As a result of the incident, a 21-year-old male passenger died at the scene, while 17 individuals with varying degrees of injuries were transported to medical centers in Artashat, Masis, and Yerevan.

A criminal proceeding has been initiated in the Ararat regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee based on part 2 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

Reports from Erebuni Medical Center indicated that two additional individuals, a 43-year-old male passenger and the 25-year-old driver of the BMW, also died in the intensive care unit without regaining consciousness.

Currently, all individuals hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the accident are under the supervision of medical staff. Examinations have been scheduled, and an inspection of the scene has been conducted. The vehicles involved in the accident have been inspected and moved to a secure location.

The investigation is ongoing, and all necessary and urgent measures are being taken to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident and to legally assess the actions of the drivers involved.
