Supreme Spiritual Council Urges Armenian Authorities to Abandon Concessive Stance

The Supreme Spiritual Council urges the authorities of the Republic of Armenia to abandon their concessive stance and demonstrate decisiveness regarding the issues surrounding Artsakh. This was stated in a statement from the council's local assembly.

The Supreme Spiritual Council calls on the authorities to ensure a resolution of the situation that guarantees the fundamental human rights of the Artsakh people for independent, safe, and dignified life on their homeland.

“We are outraged to note that due to Azerbaijan's belligerent and anti-Armenian ongoing actions, the complete blockade of Artsakh is exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the region. It is deeply worrying that, contrary to the efforts of the Russian peacekeeping forces, Azerbaijani aggression is escalating anew,” the statement reads.

The Supreme Spiritual Council has also addressed the co-chairing countries of the Minsk Group and the member states of the European Union, urging them to undertake urgent preventive actions, including sanctions against Azerbaijan, to ensure the immediate unblocking of the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor and restore normal life in the Republic of Artsakh.

“The international community must condemn Azerbaijan's inhumane and hostile policies directed against the people of Artsakh with more practical measures. Peace cannot be established in Artsakh under the threats of coercion and revenge,” the Supreme Spiritual Council's statement emphasized.

The council also urged Armenians both in Armenia and the diaspora to persistently continue their efforts in support of Artsakh and its faithful and heroic people.
