Garik and Arthur Galeyan Banned from Leaving as Pretrial Measure, Investigative Committee Reports
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has released a statement regarding the charges filed against Garik Galeyan, the father of Mikayel Galeyan, who was killed in the 44-day war.
According to the statement, “As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Article 195, Part 2, Clause 5, and Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code in the Serious Crimes Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee, it has been established during the preliminary investigation that on June 30, 2022, at around 13:50, during a protest held by the parents of fallen servicemen in front of the RA Prosecutor General's Office on V. Sargsyan Street in Yerevan, 48-year-old resident G. Galeyan and his brother A. Galeyan grossly violated public order, displaying disrespect towards the public, taking advantage of the fact that D. S., who was filming a documentary, did not comply with the demands to cease the filming at the Prosecutor General’s Office. They provocatively poured a bottle's contents over him in order to humiliate him in front of the protesters, journalists, and police officers.
They then verbally assaulted D. S. along with several others, tearing his shirt and delivering numerous blows to different parts of his body. As a result, public peace was disturbed, and D. Stepanian suffered bodily injuries that did not qualify as light, alongside severe physical pain.
Based on sufficient evidence, a public criminal prosecution has been initiated against G. and A. Galeyan, with charges brought under Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 and Article 195, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. A ban on leaving the country has been imposed as a pretrial measure against them. The investigation is ongoing.”
