Russia Prohibits Gender Transition
Today, the State Duma of Russia adopted a bill prohibiting medical interventions aimed at changing a person's gender in a plenary session, passed on second and final reading. This information was reported by TASS.
The bill was introduced to the chamber by deputies from all five factions, led by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. The first reading of the document took place in June.
According to the initiative, it is proposed to add a new article to the law on the fundamentals of citizens' health protection in Russia that bans medical interventions and the use of medications for gender transition.
However, the ban does not apply to medical interventions related to the treatment of congenital anomalies and developmental defects, as well as genetic and endocrine diseases that cause disorders in the formation of children's sexual organs.
