United States Returns to UNESCO as 194th Member

The United States has become the 194th member state of UNESCO, according to TASS, citing the organization's press service.

“The process of the U.S. returning to the organization has been completed. The United States is once again officially a member of our organization,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.

According to her, UNESCO is once again moving towards inclusivity.

The press service noted that on July 9, Azoulay spoke with the American side, during which she was informed that a document regarding the adoption of the UNESCO charter was signed in Washington.

On June 30, participants of the extraordinary session of UNESCO’s General Conference approved the resolution for the U.S. return to the organization, with the terms for gradual debt repayment proposed by Washington.
