NATO Refuses to Consider Russia a Partner Until 'Hostile Policies' Change

NATO does not seek conflict with Russia and poses no threat to it; however, Moscow will not be considered a partner until its 'hostile policies' change. This was stated in the communiqué of the Vilnius summit.

"We seek stability and predictability in the Euro-Atlantic region between both NATO and Russia. NATO does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia," the document states.

"In light of its hostile policies and actions, we cannot consider Russia a partner. Any change in our relationship depends on whether Russia will cease its aggressive behavior and fully respect international legal norms," the statement continues.

NATO remains committed to keeping communication channels open with Moscow to manage and mitigate risks, prevent escalation, and enhance transparency while continuing to respond to 'Russian threats and hostile actions.'

Since November 2021, Russia has suspended its representation in NATO.
