Police Tortured Citizen to Extract Confession, NSS Reveals
The officers of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs' police have tortured a resident of Yerevan, identified as G. B., with the aim of obtaining a confession and punishing him for a crime. This was reported by the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia.
It was noted that evidence regarding the alleged crime was obtained during investigative and procedural actions conducted within the criminal proceedings.
The supervising prosecutor has decided to initiate criminal proceedings against S. H., the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Central Police Department, and his deputy G. K. for committing the torture as part of a group. As a precaution, their official duties have been suspended.
Extensive actions continue within the criminal proceedings to uncover the complete picture of the committed crime and also to identify other involved officers.
