Rosatom Knows How to Relieve Traffic in Yerevan: Details

The Rosatom company proposes to relieve the streets of Yerevan through the "Smart City" project. Currently, the company is negotiating with representatives from the city hall.

This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by Mikhail Turundaev, the director of the Rosatom-International Network representative office in Armenia. The project is part of a comprehensive program aimed at the development of Armenian-Russian relations, signed more than a year ago.

"We are working with the Yerevan city hall. The digitization of urban traffic, modeled after Moscow, has generated significant interest," said Turundaev.

According to him, the "Smart City" project envisions the creation of a multifunctional platform that includes digitalization of urban junctions with cameras that have special sensors analyzing vehicle and pedestrian movements. The digital platform can track any vehicle, detect violations, and register fines.

The system is autonomous, analyzing the city's traffic load on its own, offering optimal routes and solutions.

"The system calculates the time pedestrians spend crossing the street, the number of pedestrians, analyzes traffic, and suggests the optimal locations for pedestrian crossings. Essentially, it’s not the person deciding where the pedestrian should cross, but the 'smart' system," noted Turundaev.

He emphasized that the system allows for traffic relief and helps map out the most optimal routes.

Turundaev mentioned that the project has piqued the interest of the partners at the Yerevan city hall. He expressed hope that the project will be implemented within the next one or two years.
