The Government Ceases Eric Israelian's Exemption for Those Wanting to Renounce Armenian Citizenship

The government has today, July 6, suspended the exemption granted to Eric Israelian for his significant achievements in the field of sports.

The basis for the decision was a letter from the Armenian Boxing Federation dated May 4, which stated that Eric Arami Israelian is not a member of the Armenian national boxing team.

It is noteworthy that Eric Israelian, a winner of the World and European Junior Championships in boxing, had expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he received from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS) and the Armenian Boxing Federation for his achievements. He posted on his Facebook page that he intends to renounce his Armenian citizenship.

The MoESCS clarified that Eric Israelian has received all the awards stipulated by Armenian legislation for his sporting achievements, including a monthly pension and benefits.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS) presented a draft for public discussion to amend the government decision No. 2062-A of December 29, 2022, regarding the termination of the exemption granted to boxer Eric Israelian, which is being canceled on the grounds that “this citizen is not included in the Armenian national boxing team.”
