Desinsection Work to Combat Pests in Central Yerevan
Desinsection work will be carried out in the Republic Square and Nalbandyan Street in Yerevan during evening hours to combat pests. This information was provided by the Yerevan City Hall in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier, it was reported that during the evening hours, pests can be seen near the fountains in Republic Square and in the adjacent streets up to Isahakyan Street, while rats are seen scurrying near building entrances.
Sputnik Armenia reached out to the Central Administrative District’s municipal economy department regarding this issue, but since it had not been resolved, we sought an official comment from the Yerevan City Hall.
The City Hall's response indicated that “the Central Administrative District administration was aware of the issue concerning the presence of pests in the adjacent areas of Republic Square during the evening hours. Although a pest control program was not initially available, desinsection work will be carried out in the mentioned area (Republic Square and Nalbandyan Street) on July 3, 2023, during the evening hours.”
Additionally, it was noted that rodent control work in the entrances of multi-apartment buildings is conducted by the management bodies of the respective buildings. In multi-apartment houses not included in the management associations, pest control is carried out in courtyards and along the streets of the administrative district as part of a program by the Central Administrative District's administration.
However, the City Hall did not clarify why there is no ongoing work against rats or why pests are prevalent in the streets of Yerevan without a combat plan in place.
