Zarema Musaeyeva and Journalist Elena Milashina Brutally Beaten in Chechnya
Masked assailants intercepted a taxi traveling from Vladikavkaz to Grozny, subjecting the journalist and lawyer to brutal beatings and destroying journalistic equipment and documents. According to the lawyer, they were threatened with execution and a gun was held to their heads. The attackers demanded that they leave and refrain from reporting.
Alexander Nemov was stabbed in the leg, while Elena Milashina sustained a brain injury and regularly loses consciousness; her fingers were broken as they demanded she unlock her phone. They are currently hospitalized in Grozny.
It is noted that journalist Elena Milashina has long been an adversary of Kadyrov and reports on torture in Chechnya. Gazeta.ru reports that the victims are in the emergency room. Milashina’s fingers are broken, and after the beating, she lost consciousness; doctors also found multiple bruises on her. Nemov can barely speak, and reports indicate that he was also stabbed.
Earlier, Alexander Nemov had stated that the prosecutor requested 5.5 years of imprisonment for the wife of former Chechen judge Zarema Musaeyeva, who is accused of assaulting a security officer.
