The spokesperson for the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, has deemed the incident involving the brutal assault of journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Chechnya as very serious, stating that it requires quite vigorous measures. In today’s remote press briefing, he mentioned that Putin has been informed about the incident.
Milashina, a journalist for 'Novaya Gazeta', and lawyer Nemov were in Chechnya to attend the trial of Zarema Musaeva, who was abducted by Chechen special services from Nizhny Novgorod in January 2022. Nemov is her lawyer. While they were en route, they were brutally assaulted by masked assailants. Meanwhile, the Grozny court sentenced Chechen activist’s mother, Musaeva, to 5.5 years in prison today.
It should be noted that in Chechnya, unidentified individuals assaulted lawyer Alexander Nemov and journalist Elena Milashina from 'Novaya Gazeta', who had come to participate in the trial.
