Tense Situation on Yerevan-Gyumri Road: Villagers Block Road Demanding Regional Governor
For 30 minutes now, the main intersection of the Yerevan-Gyumri highway near Kakavadzor village has been blocked in protest, with villagers demanding the attendance of the Aragatsotn regional governor. This was reported by Shamshyan.com.
It is reported that the protesting villagers say: “For a long time, the relevant authorities have promised that the 6-kilometer road leading into the village will be repaired. We have been waiting for 30 years for the sun to rise in our village. Many times, when someone has fallen ill and we called for an ambulance, they say they cannot come because the entire road is filled with human-sized potholes. It takes an hour and a half to transport a patient from the village to the hospital along this 6-kilometer road. The question is, will the patient be taken to the hospital or to the morgue? We are forced to take this extreme step because we have no hope that our written requests will be answered. Our patience has run out. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claims that road construction is gaining momentum in the republic, but we have no tangible results here. We ask and demand that the 6-kilometer road be repaired. Now we will be blamed for not saying anything for 30 years; now we have decided? We pay taxes for the right to travel on a quality road, but our cars are all falling apart. This road could be listed in the Guinness Book of Records for having over 1000 trenches. We will not open the road until someone from the governor's office comes.”
