Record Drug Deficit Expected in the Netherlands
This year, a record high level of drug deficit is anticipated in the Netherlands, as reported by the Royal Dutch Pharmacists Association. "In 2023, the drug deficit will reach a record level," states a message published on the association's website.
The pharmacists highlighted that the shortage of medications, which has arisen due to issues related to production, distribution, and quality, could have significant consequences, as it affects a large segment of the population. For example, individuals suffering from heart disease, arthritis, or infections can no longer expect their medications to be readily available at local pharmacies every day.
Association President Aris Prins considers the situation alarming and has called on all stakeholders in the Netherlands to make decisions swiftly to resolve the current situation.
