The Name 'Artsakh' Has Been Replaced by 'Nagorno-Karabakh': Clarification from the Ministry of Environment
For several days now, there has been a discussion on social media regarding the weather forecasts for the Republic of Armenia provided by the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Environment. As of June 28, the weather forecasts pertaining to Artsakh have been referred to with the designation 'Nagorno-Karabakh'.
24News requested a comment from the Ministry of Environment, to which they responded by sending a section from the Constitution of Artsakh titled 'Constitutional Framework', where the designation is given as Nagorno-Karabakh: 'Article 1 1. The Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh is a sovereign, democratic, legal, and social state. 2. The names Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and Republic of Artsakh are identical,' noted the ministry's spokesperson.
In response to the claim that while this distinction is understandable, it raises the question of why it is now being presented this way while it was not in the past, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, Ani Hakobyan, stated: 'I cannot provide any further commentary.'
