The Author of the Gunfire at Chisinau Airport Identified
The law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova have clarified that the individual who opened fire at Chisinau International Airport is a 43-year-old citizen of Tajikistan.
He had flown in from Istanbul but was denied entry into Moldova and sent to the airport's "sterile zone." Subsequently, the man seized a gun from a border police officer and opened fire on both the officer and a security staff member at the airport. Another person was injured in the incident.
As reported, the shooter has been arrested. The airport building remains cordoned off.
Such tragic incidents have not occurred at Chisinau Airport since 1974.
