Lavrov Comments on Statements Regarding Russia's Intent to Blow Up Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
Statements claiming that Russia would allegedly blow up the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are pure lies. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to reporters.
“What they say about supposedly blowing ourselves up while being at a nuclear facility, is it worth commenting on? It is simply pure untruth,” the minister remarked during an online briefing, adding that this is the tactic of the current Ukrainian leadership, which presents any delusion as the most relevant issue today and demands support for these delusional initiatives from the West.
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky announced that he had received a report from Ukraine's Intelligence and Security Service, according to which Russia allegedly prepared and is considering a scenario for a terrorist act at the nuclear power plant with radiation release.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described this statement as nonsense.
Vassily Nebenzia, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, stated at a Security Council meeting that Russia hopes that Kyiv's Western patrons will not allow it to create a disaster at the nuclear power plant, while “the frequent delusional claims of Kyiv regime leaders that Russia has allegedly mined the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and plans to blow it up are very concerning.”
He pointed out that the absurdity of such statements could be confirmed by the mission led by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, which visited the plant in June despite all obstacles from Ukraine.
