Video: Anna Hakobyan on the Recently Discussed Video Online

Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, made a post on her official Facebook page regarding a recent incident that occurred in one of the bars in Yerevan. Below is the content of her post:

“A homemade video has circulated on the internet, where a customer in one of the Yerevan bars demands a menu in Armenian with a strong Russian accent but asks for beer in Armenian. The young bartender is unable to fulfill this request and converses in Russian, presumably because she is Russian or from Russia, and has recently moved to Armenia to live and work.

The woman who filmed this video published it on her Facebook page as irrefutable evidence of how the state language is being violated in Armenia, highlighting how a Russian girl disregards our laws. This woman and her friends leave tearful comments in flawless Russian regarding the breach of the Armenian language.

According to them, the Russian girl should be banned from earning a living in a Yerevan bar since she hasn't learned Armenian in one or two years. However, it is acceptable for those of us who are descendants of Armenians, or those born and raised as Armenians, to defend the official language of the Republic of Armenia in perfect Russian against Russians and anyone else.

With all due respect, I must say that I had the opportunity to participate in meetings of a charitable foundation established in Armenia, where the main language used by this individual was Russian. We all spoke Armenian, but she, even if she started a sentence in Armenian, could not finish it and switched to Russian to express her thought coherently.

But of course, we must ‘put pressure’ on the friendly nation that chose our country as the best place to live. This is a very important, very patriotic step.”

It should be noted that a video has surfaced online where a customer in one of the Yerevan bars demands a menu in Armenian, speaking with a strong Russian accent.
