ECHR Issues Notable Ruling Regarding 7 Judges

According to the newspaper "Jamanak," the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has made a notable decision concerning 7 judges in Armenia whose powers have been terminated.

Specifically, the judges whose powers have been revoked—Alexey Sokoian, Zarouhie Nakhshkaryan, Anna Pilosyan, Suren Antonian, and others—have appealed to the ECHR, which has accepted their complaint for review. What is remarkable is that all of the judges' cases have been combined and will be examined in a single proceeding.

This decision by the ECHR is unprecedented in the sense that it indicates the European court has recognized that a violation exists and will prioritize the review of the cases of the judges whose powers have been terminated. This suggests that a new “setback” may be expected for the Supreme Judicial Council.

Interestingly, according to reports we have received, the ECHR has even informed the Supreme Judicial Council about accepting the judges' application and prioritizing the review of the seven judges’ cases in one proceeding.

The "Jamanak" newspaper reached out to the Supreme Judicial Council for clarification, but in response, they stated: "We have not received any information from the ECHR and have no role in discussing such issues with them."

Surprisingly, the Supreme Judicial Council is clearly lying, as the "Jamanak" newspaper possesses documents showing how Armenia’s representative at the ECHR, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, sent a letter regarding the ECHR's decision to both the Chair of the Supreme Judicial Council, Andreasian, and the Minister of Justice, Grigor Minasyan, essentially demanding explanations.
