We Believe That Azerbaijan Should Announce Recognition of Territorial Integrity: Rubinyan
We believe that Azerbaijan should announce its recognition of territorial integrity. This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, during an interview on "Azatutyun".
“When Charles Michel announced that Azerbaijan and Armenia recognize each other's territorial integrity, there has been no dissent or denial from the Azerbaijani side. The bad part is that Azerbaijan itself has not announced this, which is a problem. We believe that Azerbaijan should declare recognition of territorial integrity,” said Rubinyan.
In response to a question about why Armenia is rushing to concede the main card by recognizing Artsakh within Azerbaijan's framework, especially when it has received nothing in return so far, Rubinyan replied: “First of all, what Armenia did, it did in 1991. Therefore, what is the conversation about rushing or not rushing? Foreign critics say that Armenia and Azerbaijan did something new in Prague in 2022, but in 2022 in Prague, Armenia and Azerbaijan merely reaffirmed that they recognize each other's territorial integrity based on the declaration and agreements ratified in 1991.”
“For a long time, there has been a philosophical debate in our domestic political arena, or at least in parliament, about the following question: Should Armenia have borders or not? For example, sometimes I have the impression that our opposition colleagues hold the position that Armenia should not have borders, presumably with the idea that it might be possible to endlessly expand those borders. But they do not understand that those borders can not only expand but also extend in the opposite direction. In our view, Armenia has borders; it is not up to us to decide whether we will have them or not.”
