Communists Displeased with Renaming of Kasyan Street to Vazgen Sargsyan

The Armenian Communist Party has issued a statement regarding the renaming of Kasyan Street in Yerevan. The statement reads: “Yesterday's decision by the Yerevan City Council regarding the renaming of Kasyan Street was not new to us. This group of young people, who are unaware of their own nation's history, had attempted to carry out this change back in 2017, but thanks to the authorities at that time, it did not happen. This was stated by the Armenian Communist Party in their announcement.

The statement further claims, “Sargis Kasyan is one of the glorious sons of the Armenian people, through whom Armenia was saved from complete destruction. This is a simple truth, while all other claims are false and without any factual basis. This situation is not new and is a consequence of the activities of a political force that has usurped the Department of History at Yerevan State University, the Institute of History, while those historians who were educated during the former Soviet Union, instead of contributing, joined the uproarious carriages of their masters, cursing and vilifying the Soviet past and our heroes as a way to seek revenge for their unrealized potential. Your turn will come too.

“Expecting or hoping for anything from this small group of failed zealots in the Yerevan City Council is futile. You will undoubtedly face the judgment of history, just as you now endure the popular hatred and curses of the Armenian people. Always remember that thanks to the efforts of Sargis Kasyan, the Treaty of Alexandrapol was annulled and the destitute, orphan, and weeping land of Armenia, covering 9,000 square kilometers, became the homeland of all Armenians spanning 30,000 square kilometers. You only destroy and shrink Armenia, which is why the renaming of Kasyan Street is a logical continuation of your activities.

The Armenian Communist Party strongly condemns this despicable act and the actors behind it. Time will put everything in its place; streets will again be named after Sargis Kasyan, while the authors and executors of this petty decision will find themselves in a place known to all of us in history.”

It should be noted that the day before, the Yerevan City Council decided to rename Kasyan Street to Vazgen Sargsyan.
