Almost Completed Infrastructure for Future Checkpoint in Margara, Says Rubinayan
The Armenian side has nearly completed the infrastructure for the future checkpoint in Margara. This was announced by the Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ruben Rubinayan, during an interview with Azatutyun.
“You know that there is a clear agreement to open the land border for citizens of third countries and for individuals holding diplomatic passports, including those from Armenia and Turkey. We have almost finished the infrastructure for the future checkpoint in Margara in order to implement this agreement. We hope that the Turkish side will remain committed to our agreement, and we will soon see the realization of that first agreement. In cases where there is a lack of trust between the parties, it is very important for the first agreement to be implemented. If it is executed, trust will increase; if it is not, the little trust will diminish, which is not good,” said Ruben Rubinayan.
He noted that there hasn’t even been a reconstruction of the bridge. “Last December, an inter-agency group from our side met at the border, and sampling was conducted, and it turned out that the bridge does not need reconstruction at least for now. So, we are talking solely about the reconstruction and re-equipping of the checkpoint.”
In response to the question of whether this process has been bilateral, Rubinayan stated, “Certainly, we are doing our part; they must do theirs if they see the need for such things. The Turkish partners assure us that they will be ready; let’s see.”
