Approximately 207,000 Buildings Could Be Damaged in Istanbul Earthquake
Buğra Gökyay, the assistant to the Secretary General of the Istanbul Mayor, addressed the potential earthquake in Istanbul and its consequences in a Twitter post. This has been reported by Ermenihaber.
Specifically, the expert stated that if an earthquake occurs in the city, the number of damaged buildings could reach approximately 207,000.
Gökyay also noted that 30 percent of the buildings facing such danger were constructed before 1980, 40 percent between 1980 and 2000, and the remaining 30 percent after 2000.
It was mentioned that 95 percent of the aforementioned buildings are located on the European side of Turkey.
