We Collect Water from Sarsang, Relying on Small Rivers: Head of Water Committee
The issue of water is vital for residents due to the blockade of Artsakh, and many locals find it difficult to envision a resolution. In an interview with MediaHub, Ararat Khachatryan, the head of the Artsakh Water Committee, stated that there is no community where necessary works have not been carried out.
"In terms of drinking water, we can say that we have a sufficient supply, and regarding energy, we are currently collecting water from Sarsang for use in the autumn. There have been rains, which somewhat assist us," he said.
According to Khachatryan, he cannot specify how long the available supply will last, but they will continue to collect water until September. "When we see that the water from small rivers decreases, we will open Sarsang. Right now, we are getting drinking and irrigation water from rivers and extracting it mechanically from artesian wells," he presented.
It is noteworthy that Artsakh authorities have repeatedly raised concerns about this serious issue. Just yesterday, it was announced that a drinking water problem is emerging in Artsakh. In several villages of the Martuni region, there has been a water scarcity issue for about a month; typically, residents are supplied with water for only two hours a day.
Officials from the regional administrations are sounding the alarm that water is being collected mechanically in 71 villages of Artsakh. One solution to the problem could be installing diesel generators at pumping stations, which is currently not feasible due to the shortage of diesel fuel.
