Legal Norm Violations Identified in Ice Cream Products

Taking into account the seasonal factors, the Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia conducted a review and control purchases of ice cream products produced and imported into the country across retail networks. This is reported by the Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia.

“During the monitoring, violations of the legal norms established for this type of product were recorded. Specifically, discrepancies in labeling were identified: the 'Classic' ice cream produced by Grand Candy LLC lacks Russian labeling, and the Chistaya Liniya 'ICL Gravity' ice cream imported by Delikasa LLC does not have Armenian labeling. The expiration date is missing on the 'Chocolate Ice Cream Plombir', while the packaging of 'Rockn Roll', 'Bubble GUM', 'USSR', 'Magic Cone', and 'Alik' ice creams produced by Tamara LLC makes the production date unreadable. For the 'Chocolate Cone Ice Cream', the preparation date is stamped onto the composition label, rendering both the preparation date and composition unreadable. The production date label for the 'BONMARI' vanilla wafer ice cream from Dustr Marianna LLC is illegible, as is the production date for the 'Vanilla Holiday' ice cream from IGIT LLC. The production date label on the family fruit ice cream from Yurmenshin LLC is also unreadable.

Sales of products with labeling discrepancies have been suspended, and directives have been issued to rectify the violations.

Identification issues were also discovered regarding the naming conventions (according to the requirements of the Customs Union's technical regulations: if a dairy fat replacer is present in the ice cream's composition, terms such as 'dairy', 'cream', and 'plombir' cannot be applied in its name). Accordingly, the 'Capuchino Plombir' ice cream produced by IGIT LLC is labeled with 'plombir', yet it is indicated that a dairy fat replacer was used in the composition. Similarly, the 'Vanilla Ice Cream' by Yurmenshin LLC ('Elite Shant') is not fully labeled as 'Vanilla Ice Cream with Dairy Fat Replacer' as indicated in the composition.

In the context of monitoring, samples of 'Vanilla Ice Cream with Cookies' and 'Pine Cone Ice Cream' produced by Pink Berry LLC have been sent for laboratory testing, which revealed the presence of a dairy fat replacer.

Considering the discrepancies recorded during the monitoring process and based on the principle of traceability, state supervision is currently being carried out at the aforementioned three organizations: IGIT, Yurmenshin, and Pink Berry LLC.
