Results of Laboratory Studies on Fish Deaths in Vardavar Lake Revealed
In response to reports circulating online regarding dead fish in the Vardavar Lake of Yerevan, employees from the Ministry of Environment and the Food Safety Inspection Body conducted joint investigations at the site. They performed laboratory tests on the water and collected fish samples.
The laboratory studies revealed that the necessary amount of dissolved oxygen in the water was insufficient. Furthermore, fish sample analysis detected the presence of the fish disease 'Aeromonosis', which is not zoonotic and does not transfer to humans. However, several factors contributing to the development of the disease were identified, with the lack of oxygen in the water being singled out as the main cause of the mass fish deaths.
