Azerbaijani Soldier Huseyn Akhundov Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing ZPMK Guard
In a court ruling in Kapan, Azerbaijani soldier Huseyn Akhundov was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was found guilty of murdering 56-year-old Hayrapet Meliksetyan, a security worker at the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine.
Meliksetyan's family deems the sentence unacceptable and is demanding life imprisonment.
Recall that in early April, Akhundov, along with another Azerbaijani soldier, Aghshin Babirov, infiltrated the Syunik region from Nakhchivan. They were apprehended by residents of border villages in Syunik. Babirov was sentenced to 11 years for illegally crossing the border and illegally transporting firearms and military ammunition across the state border, while Akhundov faced additional charges of murder.
