Armenia Purchased Only 354 Billion Drams in Weapons from 2008 to 2018, Less Than One Billion Dollars Over Ten Years, Says Aleksanyan
Member of the National Assembly from the 'Civil Contract' faction Vahagn Aleksanyan writes that during the investigation committee meeting yesterday, the Prime Minister announced the alarming statistics regarding the purchase of weapons for the Armenian Armed Forces.
“From 2008 to May 2018, Armenia purchased only 354 billion drams in weapons. Less than one billion dollars. Over ten years. From May 2018 to 2020, Armenia bought 608 billion drams worth of weapons. Almost twice as much as in the previous ten years. During the same 2008-2018 period, Azerbaijan purchased approximately 5 billion dollars worth of weapons just from Russia, according to various sources. Not to mention the purchases from Israel, Belarus, and the Czech Republic, whose total value would also amount to billions of dollars,” it is noted in the post.
It is worth recalling that referencing the statistics, Nikol Pashinyan mentioned, “From 2018 up to the start of the 44-day war in 2020, which is 2 years and 4 months, the Armenian Government spent around 608 billion drams on acquiring weapons and military equipment. For comparison, between January 1, 2008, and May 2018, which is a preceding period of 10 years and 4 months, the previous governments of Armenia spent 354 billion drams for this purpose. That is, we have almost doubled the achievements of ten years in just two years.”
