We Are Completely Blocked: After the Flag Incident, Azerbaijan Does Not Allow Those in Need to Enter Armenia, Says Leader of Great Shen

The four villages of the Shushi region remain under bilateral blockade following the installation of an illegal Azerbaijani checkpoint. While there was previously a possibility to deliver humanitarian aid or transport those in need of urgent medical assistance to Armenia via Russian peacekeepers or the Red Cross, this is no longer possible. Three days ago, following the incident of flag placement by Azerbaijani armed forces near the Hakari Bridge, Azerbaijan has even prohibited the entry and exit of Russian peacekeepers.

24News spoke with David Davtyan, the leader of the besieged village of Great Shen in the Shushi region.

-Mr. Davtyan, what is the current situation in your area?

-The same situation as you know; there is no change, and everything is getting worse.

-How is it worsening?

-We are completely blocked now. Previously, patients were transported through the Red Cross and peacekeepers; now nothing can be done.

-Since when has this situation started?

-After the incident with the flag placement. We used to transport food and had the opportunity to take patients to medical facilities. It is crucial for the patients, but now that is not possible. Thankfully, we do not have any patients in such a severe condition in the village. We received assistance two days ago, before the bridge was closed, and it will be enough for another month.

-How is the situation in the village, and what is the attitude of the people?

-Ordinary. They are getting used to it and holding on, although they do not reconcile with the idea that they should integrate.

-Integrate into what?

-Into the integration of Artsakh into Azerbaijan. No one reconciles with that, nor will they ever.
