«The Unconstructive Side is Azerbaijan» – Deputy Foreign Minister

The Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan addressed reporters in a briefing regarding the periodic violations of the ceasefire regime along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. He stated, “The actions undertaken by the Azerbaijani leadership, particularly the tension at the border with Armenia and the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, do not contribute to building peace in the region and cast doubt on Azerbaijan's claims that they are genuinely interested in establishing stability and peace.”

Referring to the unblocking of transport routes in the region, particularly the statements made by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Kostanyan emphasized that it is crucial for Armenia to establish principles that the unblocking should occur based on the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the parties involved. He added, “If we have not been able to establish until now that unblocking will happen within the frameworks of sovereignty and jurisdiction, it is naturally Azerbaijan that is the unconstructive party.”

According to him, since January 2021, Armenia has remained consistently constructive and interested in advancing the unblocking process. “We are interested in unblocking regional infrastructure and transport routes because we believe that the ‘Armenian Crossroad’ project has significant potential, given the geopolitical developments and logistical issues that the world is currently facing.”
