Severe Hail Damage to Crops in Ijevan, Says MP
In the consolidated community of Ijevan, fields have been devastated by an unprecedented hailstorm, resulting in damage to all crops and the property of local residents. This was reported by Garnik Danielyan, a member of the 'Armenia' parliamentary faction, on his Facebook page.
“As a result of the unprecedented hail in the Ijevan consolidated community, fields have been destroyed, and all crops have been damaged, along with people’s property. The border region of Tavush is already facing numerous issues. Now, farmers who were expecting to harvest are in a desperate situation. A popular saying states, 'Hail strikes where it has already struck.' Even with a year’s worth of hard work, people cannot alleviate the damage caused by the hail,” he wrote.
“We are told that we have invested 35 billion drams in agriculture. Where is that money being squandered? Why is it not allocated to farmers as compensation for damages? Moreover, no preventive measures are being taken. The anti-hail systems are not being effectively implemented as needed, and their numbers are not increasing across the country. The entire responsibility for this situation lies with the current authorities. I have repeatedly raised this issue, yet the Minister of Economy responds nonchalantly that they cannot do more. In reality, it is not that they can’t, but that they don’t want to. As a result of irresponsibility and seriousness, farmers and agriculture are suffering today,” the MP emphasized.
