Arsen Yerevanski, 'Thief in Law', Released; Not Extradited to Russia
Arsen Yerevanski, known as Arsen Mkrtchyan, has been released, and he will not be extradited to the Russian Federation. This was stated by his lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan in an interview with NEWS.am.
It should be noted that there have been media reports suggesting that an exchange was anticipated in connection with the extradition of former Republican Party MP Mihran Poghosyan for Arsen Yerevanski.
“They wanted to barter, which is absurd. It was an impossible situation. From a legal perspective, it is an excluded phenomenon, but in today’s Armenia, nothing surprises us anymore. First of all, he is a citizen of Armenia and is not subject to extradition. He suffers from a disease that prevents him from serving his sentence; therefore, he was not even subject to arrest,” said lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan.
It should be noted that Arsen Yerevanski is accused of creating a criminal subculture. He is also wanted in Russia on similar charges.
