Video: How Our Coat of Arms Relates to Our State, Says Nikol Pashinyan
Our coat of arms expresses our mentality significantly. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during his concluding speech on the discussion of the 2022 state budget annual report in the National Assembly.
“What is depicted there—the Ark of Noah on top of Mount Ararat, the coats of arms of Armenia's four dynasties. And whenever I look at that coat of arms, not always, but recently a question has arisen in me. When we adopted that coat of arms in 1991, that image, which is sacred to us, what connection does it have with the state established in 1991? What does it represent?” he noted.
According to him, the Ark of Noah is on top of Mount Ararat, the territory of Armenia is under floodwaters, and the lion, which has long ceased to live in Armenia under natural conditions, signifies the division between historical Armenia and present-day Armenia. “Should present-day Armenia serve historical Armenia, or should historical Armenia serve present-day Armenia? And this is the political and historic question to which we must provide an answer,” Pashinyan stated.
