VIDEO: "You Have Called the People Sheep, You Cannot Be Elected by the National Assembly" - Aleksanyan to the Candidate for MPA
The discussions regarding the election of a member to the Competition Protection Commission in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia are continuing in a heated atmosphere. Members of the "Civil Contract" faction have "studied" the Facebook page of the candidate Anahit Sargsyan, a lawyer and current attorney, put forward by the "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" factions before entering the parliament.
During a Q&A session with the opposition candidate, Civil Contract MP Vahe Aleksanyan first inquired whether she had started working at the Competition Protection Agency during the time of Serzh Sargsyan, to which he received an affirmative answer. The MP then quoted a Facebook post of Sargsyan, where she referred to the populace as sheep: "Well, sheep people, you rejected Serzh and brought Nikol, so now don't you dream of Serzh's Armenia?"
The Civil Contract MP questioned if being appointed by Serzh Sargsyan required the condition of considering the Armenian people sheep. Aleksanyan also wanted to know how someone who deems the populace sheep can come from a parliament formed by that same populace and seek votes.
"I stand here as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and as a lawyer. I believed I wouldn't answer political questions, as this position is not political either. Let me say one thing, as a natural citizen of the Republic of Armenia, I have my opinions on the phenomena occurring, the state, its strength, the leaders, and the policies pursued by them. I don't know what post you are referring to, and I don't believe I have such a post on my Facebook page, but at the moment we are losing the Republic of Artsakh, and in that case, I can have problems with that populace, which has led to this," Anahit Sargsyan stated.
She emphasized that Aleksanyan is being dishonest when reading such posts in the National Assembly. The ruling party MP stressed that Sargsyan should apologize to the people for calling them sheep and hence she cannot be elected by the National Assembly, which was elected by the people.
Civil Contract MP Arpine Davoyan also quoted another post from Sargsyan's Facebook page, in which she called the people who elected Nikol Pashinyan empty people, brainless, stateless, with a corrupted genetic code. She underscored that those posts have been deleted. Davoyan inquired whether Anahit Sargsyan still stands by her thoughts.
"I do not post and delete; I make those posts, and they remain. It is strange that if they were deleted, how you are quoting them. I would like to emphasize that for me, the most important thing in life is not the position or the salary received, but the state, the nation, and the people. Throughout my life, I have had many opportunities to move to another country, but I realized that I can only live in my homeland. Armenia and Artsakh are my homeland. For me, the loss of Artsakh is also a loss of the statehood of the Republic of Armenia," the candidate for MPA said.
She concluded her remarks by emphasizing that the election of any individual to that position should be exclusively based on that person's professional capabilities. In other words, it should depend on how capable they are of implementing their abilities. According to Anahit Sargsyan, presenting Facebook posts in the National Assembly is inappropriate for that chamber.
