Manchester City Crowned Champions League Winners
The final of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League took place at Istanbul's Olympic Stadium, featuring Manchester City and Inter Milan.
According to a report by Armenpress, both teams played an exploratory game in the opening minutes, revealing none of their trump cards. However, Manchester City looked more dangerous during their attacks, lacking only in the precision of their final shot. The English side clearly had more initiative in the game.
In the 35th minute, Kevin De Bruyne, one of Manchester City's key players, was substituted, with Phil Foden taking his place. Both teams went to halftime unable to capitalize on their opportunities, resulting in a scoreless draw.
The second half began with both teams playing more aggressively and exhibiting rough play, but the score remained unchanged. In the 56th minute, a substitution for Inter saw Lukaku enter the game in place of Džeko.
Manchester City seized their moment in the 68th minute, as Rodri finished a well-coordinated attack with a precise shot. Just after this goal, Inter had a chance to equalize, but City goalkeeper Ederson made an excellent save from Lukaku's shot.
After conceding, Inter players pushed forward, attempting to salvage the game. They threatened City’s goal several times, with Di Marco having an excellent scoring opportunity that narrowly missed as it was blocked by his teammate Lukaku.
Until the final whistle, the Italian players aimed to change the course of the game, creating dangerous chances against their opponents' net. Even in the dying moments of the game, Inter had a chance to equalize, but once again, Ederson rose to the occasion.
Ultimately, Inter failed to recover their lost ground, suffering a defeat after reaching the final for the first time since 2010. The final score was Manchester City 1, Inter 0.
With this victory, Manchester City became Champions League winners for the first time in their history. Under Pep Guardiola's management, the team claimed their third trophy of the season.
Former captain of the Armenian national football team, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute, making history as the first Armenian player to play in a Champions League final.
