French Former President Hollande: 'US Presidential Elections Will Determine the Outcome of the War in Ukraine'
Former French President François Hollande has expressed the opinion in an interview with Financial Times that the outcome of military operations in Ukraine will depend on the results of the US presidential elections scheduled for next year.
“If Donald Trump is elected, he will say, ‘We are stopping here; everything the Russians have can be theirs,” Hollande noted, adding that the conflict comes at an “extremely high cost,” as reported by РБК.
Hollande believes that Europe must prepare for the day when it must rely on itself for security, which should also be connected to NATO. He emphasized that this does not mean European countries do not share the goals of the United States.
“If we tell our European allies that we do not have the same interests as the US, at least in terms of peace, our allies will not be able to follow us,” Hollande stated.
Overall, according to Pentagon estimates, since February of last year, the United States has provided over $39.7 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Earlier, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that a Trump victory in next year's elections would mean the “end of democracy” in the country as he would withdraw the country from NATO and lead to the “end of Ukraine.”
