Video: Investigative Committee on Incident Involving Minister of Internal Affairs' Motorcade on Grigor Lusavorich Street
On June 8, 2023, at 09:39 AM, a report was received regarding an accident that occurred earlier that day around 08:48 AM on Grigor Lusavorich Street, near 8th address in Yerevan. A Ford Focus vehicle collided with a stationary Toyota vehicle, which was among other vehicles in the opposite lane at a traffic light. Subsequently, the Toyota vehicle hit a parked SUV, and the Ford Focus flipped over and crashed into a Gaz-32213 minibus serving route number 39. As a result, the driver of the Ford Focus was taken to the hospital with injuries.
This information was reported by the Investigative Committee.
Following the incident, the investigation department of the Road Traffic Crimes Investigation Division of the RA Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under Article 342, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, and an inquiry is underway. Forensic and technical examinations have been ordered.
On the same day, the traffic police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs received recordings from the cameras that documented the incident. Upon examination, it was revealed that the Ford Focus was traveling along Grigor Lusavorich Street, moving from the direction of Beirut Street towards Agatangeghos Street in the left lane. With a green light, the driver of the vehicle crossed the intersection of Grigor Lusavorich and Italy streets, continuing in the same direction toward Agatangeghos Street. During this time, other vehicles were also proceeding in the right lanes alongside the Ford Focus.
At the same moment, a convoy vehicle from the traffic police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, equipped with red-blue flashing lights, entered the right lane of Grigor Lusavorich Street from the direction of Parliaments Street, followed by other SUV vehicles entering the right lane from Parliaments Street.
During this time, the driver of the Ford Focus, having no obstacles in his lane, made a sharp maneuver to the left while proceeding directly in the left lane, exiting to the opposite lane and colliding with the Toyota, which was stopped at a red light, flipping over and moving towards the right where it crashed into the route minibus.
Examination revealed that there were no obstructive circumstances for the Ford Focus’s movement, and if the driver had continued straight, he would have been able to proceed safely. This indicates that the entry of other convoy vehicles from Parliaments Street into the right lane of Grigor Lusavorich Street could not have obstructed the Ford Focus’s passage. The inquiry continues.
