60,000-340,000 Dram Bribe: Head of Shiraz State University's Department of Economics Arrested
The RA Anti-Corruption Committee has initiated a criminal case based on materials received from the RA Police, revealing that the head of the Department of Economics at Shiraz State University took various amounts of money as bribes from several students for illegal actions in favor of the students during the 2022-2023 academic years.
During the preliminary investigation, it was also discovered that there were instances of bribery solicitation and official forgery. According to the evidence obtained during the investigation, the head of the Department of Economics, A.M., received bribes ranging from 60,000 to 340,000 DRAM from around two dozen students in exchange for positively assessing their examinations and grading their master's theses during the 2022-2023 academic semester.
Subsequently, responsible officials at Shiraz State University included falsified information in official documents regarding students receiving positive grades for their exams and successfully defending their master's theses.
On June 7, 2023, based on the direct existence of reasonable suspicion of committing a crime under the third point of the second part of Article 435 of the RA Criminal Code, a decision was made to arrest A.M. by the investigator of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee. An investigation is ongoing.
Notification: A person accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a judgment that has entered into legal force.
