Why Prosecutors Have Submitted Resignation Requests
Georg Baghdasaryan, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia, has submitted a resignation request. In an interview with Factinfo, Baghdasaryan confirmed the decision, stating, "It is my decision," while refraining from commenting on the reasons behind it.
It is noted that information had been circulating in the press for a long time regarding the strained relationship between the Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan and Georg Baghdasaryan, and that Anna Vardapetyan had long wished to be 'rid' of Baghdasaryan, who is considered a protégé of former Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan.
Petros Petrosyan, another figure seen as a protégé of Davtyan and who held the position of Prosecutor of Kotayk Province, also submitted a resignation request following reports that he was relieved of his duties as Kotayk Prosecutor by a decision of Anna Vardapetyan, and was appointed as the Deputy Head of one of the units of the Prosecutor's Office.
Factinfo attempted to obtain a comment from Petros Petrosyan, but was unable to establish contact. The Prosecutor General's Office stated they were not aware of the resignation requests submitted by the Deputy Prosecutor General and the Prosecutor of Kotayk Province.
Furthermore, Prosecutor Arsen Martirosyan, who served as the prosecutor in the case against Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, has also submitted a resignation request.
