Video: The dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant has collapsed

The dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the Kherson region, has collapsed. This was confirmed in an interview with TASS by the mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontyev. According to him, nighttime attacks on the hydroelectric plant led to the destruction of valves, causing water to be released uncontrollably downstream. Leontyev described it as "the most serious act of terrorism."

Interfax reports on the partial collapse of the Kakhovka HPP dam, citing a representative of local emergency services. He claims that there were no attacks on the hydroelectric plant during the night.

Information about explosions and destruction at the Kakhovka HPP dam first surfaced on Ukrainian Telegram channels on the night of June 6. Following this, Mayor Vladimir Leontyev denied the reports in an interview with RIA Novosti, calling them "nonsense," but less than an hour later, in an interview with the same agency, he stated that the upper part of the Kakhovka hydropower plant was damaged as a result of shelling. He noted that the dam itself had not collapsed.
