US Has Not Decided Whose Candidacy to Support for NATO Secretary General Position: White House

The United States has not yet decided whose candidacy it will support for the position of NATO Secretary General, which will become vacant in the autumn of 2023, said John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council.

"I have nothing to say regarding the next NATO Secretary General," Kirby was quoted by TASS.

He stated that President Joe Biden has not made a decision on whom the country will back.

This comment came as he addressed the lobbying of Ben Wallace, the head of the UK Ministry of Defence, for this position.

It is noted that the current NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, has a mandate that remains in effect until September 30, 2023.
