Death Toll from Fake Cider in Russia Rises to 16

The number of fatalities from poisoning by counterfeit cider or apple brandy in the Ulyanovsk region has increased. Currently, it is reported that 16 people have died, while an additional 35 individuals are hospitalized due to poisoning.

Local authorities have urged all entrepreneurs in the Ulyanovsk region to immediately cease the sale of alcoholic apple brandy in wholesale and retail outlets as well as public catering establishments.

Two individuals have also been poisoned by the counterfeit drink in Udmurtia, and their condition is assessed as serious. Investigators are questioning a businessman from the Samara region, who is a suspect in this poisoning case.

Previously, it was reported that fatal poisonings have occurred from cider in the Ulyanovsk and Samara regions of Russia. The Investigative Committee has also announced that a businessman from the Samara region has been arrested concerning the poisoning of Ulyanovsk residents from cider.
