The Thesis of Mirrored Troop Withdrawal Absolutely Does Not Benefit Armenia's Interests, Military Historian
The thesis of mirrored troop withdrawal absolutely does not benefit Armenia's interests. It will have extremely dangerous consequences for us. If such a thing happens, then immediately 70 villages will be left without protection.
In an interview with 'Factinfo', military historian Armen Aivazyan sounded this alarm.
“Our villages are located quite close to the border. Mirrored troop withdrawal will not work for us; it serves only Azerbaijan's interests. It is unacceptable to retreat and leave those villages unprotected. If the so-called mediators really want Armenia to survive as a state, they must understand that the condition of troop withdrawal cannot be applied symmetrically in Armenia's case, as 70 villages will remain defenseless. Armenia is situated in the middle of the Turkey-Azerbaijan confederation,” Aivazyan stated, commenting on Prime Minister Pashinyan's repeated assertions that the purpose of this is to achieve peace, he emphasizes that there are negligible preconditions for peace.
“Why was the map from 1975 chosen, which is the most unfavorable option for Armenia? And why was the map from 1921-28 not chosen, which incidentally would make sense, as those were the borders when Armenia entered the Soviet Union? Starting from the 1930s, the Soviet leadership gradually took lands from Armenia and gifted them to Azerbaijan. Not to mention that Azerbaijan proclaims itself as the legal successor of Azerbaijan from 1918-20, not Soviet Azerbaijan,” Aivazyan noted, reiterating that instead of representing unfavorable and erroneous positions for the country, the prime minister should try to stop the enemy's plan to eliminate Armenia.
