Russian Investigator Received Record Amount of Bribe in Bitcoins

The head of the Investigative Committee of Moscow's Tverskoy District, Marat Tambiyev, received a bribe of 1.6 billion rubles, or 24 million dollars, in bitcoins from hackers whose case he was investigating.

According to Коммерсант, three hackers transferred the money to the investigator to prevent the seizure of the defendants' assets. The funds were discovered during an inspection of Tambiyev's laptop, which was seized during a raid.

A criminal case has been opened against the investigator for receiving a particularly large bribe. On June 5, the court will consider the prosecutor's claim for the confiscation of the money received from the hackers.

The Russian Investigative Committee has dismissed the investigator for discrediting conduct. The bribe of 1.6 billion rubles is noted to be a record amount for Russian law enforcement agencies.
