The Whole Truth about the Karabakh Issue Has Been Unknown Due to the Lack of Democracy, Says Prime Minister

The ideology of the Civil Contract Party has been democracy, which pushed us towards revolution. This was stated today, on May 31, by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the Armenian Democracy Forum being held in Yerevan.

“That was the punishment that democracy became and continues to be Armenia's brand. The lack of democracy in the Republic of Armenia, or the attitude towards democracy, has served as a tool for all of us not to know the whole truth about the Karabakh issue. This is a very important nuance. The model that only a few people are aware of the expert level regarding the Karabakh problem is a vivid proof of that. The biggest problem we have encountered is precisely this. That is why we are now learning new information about the Karabakh issue in a democratic context and uncovering new subtexts,” Pashinyan noted.

He emphasized that after the war, when very serious dividing lines had emerged, political elements often appear even within civil society, which creates additional problems. “I admit that today one of our systemic issues is that civil society must have adequate involvement in the formulation of policies,” Pashinyan added.
