EU Welcomes Pashinyan's Bold Declaration
The European Union welcomes the bold declaration made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on May 22, and the clear readiness of Armenia to work on demarcation. This statement was made by Peter Stano, spokesperson for the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell.
“As work on these sensitive issues continues, it is important to take steps to build trust, act sincerely, and demonstrate leadership to reach solutions on all matters related to comprehensive settlement,” noted Stano.
According to the European diplomat, despite the complex history of conflicts and past grievances, all issues must be resolved exclusively by peaceful means through dialogue. “The EU is committed to supporting the parties in this initiative,” the statement read.
Stano emphasized that the process of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations has intensified in the past month, which is welcomed by the European Union. The EU believes it is crucial to maintain this historical momentum and to avoid actions, including hostile rhetoric, that could jeopardize the peace process.
It should be noted that during the press conference on May 22, Pashinyan clarified what it means for Armenia to recognize Azerbaijan's territorial integrity of 86,600 square kilometers, stating that Azerbaijan's territory of 86,600 square kilometers also includes Nagorno-Karabakh. He added that the communities of Tigranashen in the Ararat province and six villages in Tavush are not included in Armenia's territorial integrity of 29,800 square kilometers.
