Recognition of Genocide Gives Us Nothing Except Moral Satisfaction: Sinanyan
The genocide has been recognized, and that process is complete. This was stated by Zareh Sinanyan, the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, during a conversation with reporters.
When asked if the entire world has recognized the Armenian Genocide, Sinanyan responded, "When you say the whole world, who do you mean? China, for example, probably has not recognized it; Western countries and Russia have recognized it. The fact of our genocide should be directly linked to the security of the part of our people that remains and lives on its ancestral land. In other words, we should not just say that a genocide occurred and ask for recognition, but we should point out that if you do not recognize it, the perpetrators of the genocide might also act against Eastern Armenia."
“Recognition of the genocide gives us nothing except moral satisfaction; we need to connect it to our current security. We should tell the world that because the recognition process lasted so long, you inspired other powers that have now besieged 120,000 residents. Why have we fought for so many years for Artsakh? Because we knew that Artsakh could be subjected to a process of Nakhchivanization,” he added.
According to Sinanyan, despite great efforts in the genocide recognition process, a connection has been successfully established between the issue of Armenian rights and today’s security challenges.
