Official from the Ministry of Defense Received 605,000 AMD Bribe from Soldier's Father

According to the evidence gathered in the criminal case conducted by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, it has been established that K. A., serving as the deputy commander of the technical department of military unit No. N of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, received a bribe of 605,000 AMD through intermediaries from the father of a conscript in order to take action in favor of the soldier.

Specifically, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, it was revealed that in March 2023, M. G., the father of a conscript from military unit No. N, approached K. A. through M. H. and A. G. to support the appointment of the conscript as a driver in the same unit. K. A., using his influence due to his official powers, demanded a bribe of 2,500 USD on March 7, 2023, through one of the intermediaries and with the assistance of S. Kh., and instructed his subordinate, the head of the automotive service of the unit, to include the mentioned soldier in the list of candidates for appointment as a driver. However, due to a lack of financial resources, M. G. refused to provide the requested amount of the bribe, after which K. A. reduced the demand to 1,500 USD.

Accepting the offer of bribing the official, M. G. transferred 100,000 Russian rubles and 90,000 AMD, equivalent to 605,000 AMD, to K. A. through A. G.

K. A. has been charged under the second part of the second point of Article 435 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, S. Kh. under the second part of the second point of Article 435, M. H. and A. G. under the first part of Article 437, and M. G. under the second part of the second point of Article 436. K. A. and S. Kh. have been taken into custody as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation concerning the aforementioned defendants has been completed, and the case materials have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor with a request to confirm and forward it to court for trial.
