Number of Unemployed in Armenia as of January 1, 2023 Reaches 48,500: Minister

As of January 1, 2023, the number of unemployed individuals in Armenia has been recorded at 48,561. This information was provided today, May 31, during a joint meeting of the permanent committees of the National Assembly discussing the execution of the 2022 state budget report, by Armenia's Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Narek Mkrtchyan.

According to him, this figure represents a 16.5% decrease compared to the statistics of 2021.

“Of the total number of unemployed, 62.8% or 30,543 are women. This figure has decreased by 1.4% compared to 2021,” Mkrtchyan stated.

Moreover, in 2022, 10,362 people were employed, which is a 2.4% increase from the corresponding figure in 2021.

The minister emphasized that these data are obtained through the consolidation of information from the unified social service. He also noted that with the support of this service, 11,966 citizens were employed in 2018, and 13,513 in 2019.

According to the ministry’s data, in the coming three years, sectors related to construction, agriculture, trade, IT, and medical services will continue to remain in demand.
